Tierney, Diane. (2006, 3 June). "The Benvenuto". Toronto Star.
The Benvenuto, a luxury condo conversion project south of St. Clair Ave. near Avenue Rd. is a landmark building that has a special place in the hearts of many Torontonians.
In 1955, architect Peter Dickinson designed it as a seven-storey, luxury apartment and hotel with modernist lines that had never been seen in the city before.
"Over the last 18 months, we have taken what was already a stunning piece of Toronto history ¡ª designed by the same architect as the Hummingbird Centre and the Park Plaza Hotel ¡ª and updated it to the highest level of 21st-century luxury," says Mitchell Abrahams, president of Malen Capital and developer of the project.
With the help of architects Gordon Ridgely and Les Klein, interior designer Bryon Patton and landscape architect John Lloyd, the Benvenuto has been meticulously refurbished.
There are 116 units, ranging from pied-¨¤-terre studios, to one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom-plus-den layouts. They range from about 500 to 3,486 square feet, with most between 1,500 and 2,500 square feet.
