The Chelsea Lofts, located on what was once an unsightly vacant lot at the corner of Dupont Street and Lansdowne Avenue, has turned out to one of the more attractive mid-rise buildings in Toronto.

The seven-storey building, which is now finished, has prompted other developers to try their luck at converting some former industrial spaces in this changing neighbourhood. The Chelsea, however, is not a conversion, and that has helped keep its price low enough to make it one of the more affordable condominium projects in the central part of the city.

While not lofts in the truest sense, the Chelsea suites — there are 80 of them — are wide open, with a scarcity of walls to make the most of their scant square footage. Bedrooms have sliding doors, while some suites take advantage of some odd angular irregularities to create space for bicycle storage.

Even the penthouses are under 900 square feet, but feature large terraces, some on two sides of the suite, as well as sizable dens.
