  • Newman, Alex. (2006, 1 July). "Resort-like retreat soothes soul". Toronto Star.

While architects usually draw from the surroundings for their design clues, the new Luna Cityplace condo project near the CN Tower is strictly "site as context" — meaning the spot itself creates context.

The 38-storey crescent-shaped tower surrounded by Zen gardens, waterfalls, long grasses and fire pits promises to be such a contrived "destination," even in the midst of the financial district's looming office buildings.

But it's swept into the model suite as well. Designer Mike Niven admits he was "trying to do something much more far and away, and more vibrant. We were really trying to bring the approach of resort living in the city, to feel like a destination point."

The Luna condominium, the newest addition to Concord CityPlace in downtown Toronto, will be encased in glass, allowing natural exterior features to be fully appreciated indoors.

In another exterior area, tall grasses, rock gardens and various organic elements will run under the shelter of cabanas, explains Johnson Cheng, sales and marketing manager for the developer, Concord Adex Developments Corp.

Concord CityPlace, a 45-acre development west of the Rogers Centre and the CN Tower, is Toronto's largest residential project. By the time it is completed, there will be 18 condominium towers lined up on the property.

The main Luna building will be a 38-storey tower with a crescent-shaped silhouette.
