  Radiance@Minto Gardens, at Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave., has become the first highrise multi-residential building in Canada to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The 33-storey condo achieved the advanced rating of LEED Silver, issued by the Canada Green Building Council.

  Since occupancy began in late 2004, Radiance has used about one-third less energy than similar-sized buildings and has saved its residents about $200,000 a year in common area energy costs and about $55,000 in water fees.

  The project, by MintoUrban Communities Inc., heralds the coming wave of environmentally friendly condos in the GTA. Tridel will also be pursuing LEED certification for its Verve condo and last week, the Times Group Corp. announced plans to develop Majestic Court, Markham's first residential building designed to meet LEED certification standards. TAS Design Build also intends to pursue LEED for a Toronto project it will launch this fall.
