  • Hume, Christopher. (2005, 25 June). "Elegance comes to Regent Park". Toronto Star.

No one ever moved to Regent Park expecting fabulous architecture, but that's about to change.

Designed by architectsAlliance, the scheme was chosen by an expert jury from four short-listed submissions, any one of which would have been the best thing that ever happened in this troubled part of town.

The winning entry calls for a 17-storey glass tower that sits atop a seven-storey red-brick base. Beside it, there's a eight-storey masonry building similar to the podium. The two are separated by a community garden.

The new complex, on the northwest corner of Dundas St. E. and Sackville St., is the first step in a 12-year, $1-billion, program that will remake the 30-hectare site from top to bottom.

Though construction won't start until next year, it's clear that the renewal of Regent Park, along with waterfront revitalization, is the most important project now underway in Toronto. Despite the fact that 7,500 people live in Regent Park, it has always been a place apart from the city, and for all the wrong reasons.
