"Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto to Open 2011". (2008, 8 April). Marketwire.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel group, signed an agreement with Vancouver's Westbank and Peterson Group to manage the 202-room five-star Shangri-La Hotel, Toronto opening 2011. The hotel will be Shangri-La's second property in Canada following the debut of the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver in January 2009 by the same development team.
The hotel will occupy the first 17 floors of the C$430 million 66-storey tower. Its 202 guestrooms will be among the most spacious in the city and decorated in a contemporary style with Asian highlights.
The hotel's function rooms, on the third floor, will open onto a landscaped garden terrace as well as overlook the historic Bishop's Block to the southwest. The ballroom will seat 200 and four smaller rooms will seat 12 to 50 persons. All function rooms will offer floor-to-ceiling windows and an elegant pre-function foyer. A screening room/theatre seating 50 guests will provide a venue for screenings or executive presentations that require dramatic special effects.

Yu, Sydnia. (2007, 21 March). "DOWNTOWN: Tower to offer comforts of a favourite hotel". Globe and Mail.
Called Living Shangri-La Toronto, the 65-storey tower at University Avenue and Adelaide Street will combine a five-star hotel with a luxury condominium. Located across from the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, it will contain 220 guest rooms and, above them, 352 residences. Owners of those suites will have access to the hotel's spa and pool, as well as 24-hour conveniences such as housekeeping and room service.
Living Shangri-La Toronto is the second Canadian property to be developed by Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts along with Vancouver-based Westbank and Peterson Group. The companies' Living Shangri-La Vancouver will be completed next year. Shangri-La Hotels is well known in Asia for its high-end hotels and resorts, and now is expanding into North America.
The Toronto tower, situated between the financial and entertainment districts, will include 279 one- |and two-bedroom suites from the 18th to 48th floor. Prices range from $550,000 to $1.7-million.
Starting on the 49th floor, there will be 71 executive suites measuring between 1,900 and 3,700 square feet. Priced from $2.1-million to more than $5-million, these units will feature separate elevators, lobbies, and concierge and valet services. There are a few two-level plans with double-height ceilings in the principal room.
The two penthouse units will have more than 6,000 square feet of space and cost about $10-million each.
Purchasers can expect to move in by the spring of 2011.

A massive high-rise building that every Torontonian can love may be too much to ask for. But word that Westbank Developments will soon announce plans for a 63-storey hotel and condominium tower is prompting cheers from a seemingly unlikely source -- local historians and preservationists. Maybe more unlikely, at least to the uneducated eye, is the reason for the excitement.
Have you ever noticed a boarded-up building that looks set to crumble into the parking lot at the northeast corner of Adelaide and Simcoe Streets? To most, it's a dump, abandoned since the Pretzel Bell Tavern closed a quarter-century ago. But to history buffs, it's all that remains of Bishop's Block, a three-storey set of once-luxurious apartments built as an investment by butcher John Bishop from 1829 to 1833.
Now, development lawyer Stephen Diamond has been hired to get Westbank and its partner, the Peterson Group, through Toronto's tricky approvals process. Mr. Diamond says the out-of-town developer would prefer not to make any announcements about the $320-million project until it is much closer to getting the green light.
Bishop's Block would be a separate but connected building, and ERA Architects -- the firm that restored the Carlu and the Distillery District -- has already been into the derelict building to assess its condition and take pictures.
