    Project: cast-in-place concrete structural frame, fuel fired heating system, concrete structure; The project will generally consist of the demolition of an existing 3-storey, above-ground parking/laundry facility and a 7-storey mixed-use building and the construction of a new medical research and education building at 38 Shuter St and 209 Victoria St. The facility, consisting of two buildings, the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Centre in Healthcare Education, jointly to be named the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, will support a unique integration of leading edge research and education activities, seeking to accelerate the translation of bench-based discovery to patient applications.

    St. Michael's Hospital has been given $26 million to create a new research facility which will free up almost 4,600 square metres in the hospital to be used for patients.

    Toronto philanthropists Patrick and Barbara Keenan donated $13 million to the hospital yesterday, which was matched by the province, totalling $26 million for the new facility.

    The new facility, approximately 16,200 square metres, will be built on the northeast corner of Victoria and Shuter Sts. and is expected to be completed in 2009.
